We just released VirtuaGirlHD 1.0.2.4 Release Candidate that we plan to officially release next week.

This new version contains important bug fixes and new functionalities that we welcome your feedback on.
As a reminder, pre-release version are optional updates that contain the latest round of bug fixes and/or soon-to-be-released new features.

To install this new version :

- Do not uninstall your current version, you will do the new install over your existing one.

- Add a string value named 'betaversion' in this registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/totem/vghd/DLM/
and set its value to '110408' (the characters 110408 only, no quotes) . If this is not done properly you'll get error messages about missing files (as windowsex.dll etc)

- Download and run the new installer:
http://www.virtuagirlhd.com/btest2008/software/setup-vghd.exe

Changes since version 1.0.2.2 release are:
- major bugs that make the download manager crash or corrupt its script corrected
- problem with calendar or right file update corrected.
- new install process (no more tutorials, first girl and calendar appear faster )
- crash that may occur when vghd trying to play a animation and rebuild the collection list at the same time fixed.

known problem is this version:
- some display refresh problems on the current downloads list.

If you’d like to help with testing or bugfixing, your input is very welcome in this topic. Please be very specific about what you find and post plenty of pictures to show and illustrate.
Thank you for helping improve the quality of Virtuagirl!

The VirtuaGirl team.

All seems well so far, I'll post if I find anything out of the ordinary. In the interest of specificity, I'll elaborate on exactly what I did that was successful:

Program installed fine. I quit VGHD before install, and confirmed that the download manager was not running before install as well.

I am now confirmed as having VGHD version 1.0.2.4, and download manager version 1.0.1.4 installed.

I bought a card from my calender (Axell Parker #293). As I don't have automatic downloads selected, the tooltip properly came up and told me she had been added to my collection and to download her, I needed to click the "download her now" card in the "my collection" tab. I did that, and the card downloaded with no problems. She seems to play fine.

Ok, downloaded onto 2 separate machine. Laptop that was not working correctly with 1.0.2.3 and desktop with 1.0.2.2 that was working correctly.

Install was smooth on both machines.

Laptop
After 30 minutes is still only showing 17 free trailor annimations instead of the collection on its HDD. have deleted the models.lst & refreshed the downloads. No change.

Performance, much faster on screen, but CPU usage is extremely high. Clocked it @99%.

Desktop
Restricted to 21 free trailor annimations only after 30 minutes. Refreshed downloads & full collection appears & downloading "today's" annimation

Observation on the laptop.
Even though only showing 17 free trailers instead of the full collection and after the preferences have been set to display "No Nudity" only one annimation set is being run. Jana H - California Suit.

I have tried others, but they do not play (as yet).

Thought:
the laptop is set not to download annimations, rather I copy from the Desktop to the Laptop, to save downloading the same file twice. Which given the size of the files is essential. Am I now restricted from playing one machine's annimations on another even though using the same account?

@Cartref

Try to delete your model.lst and re-downloading with check update button.

Maybe it could help.

@ zikute55wa,

I did delete the models.lst and posted as much in my initial post.

Now some 2 hours later, I have been able to download the free trailers for kathy Moore, by clicking on her in My Collections and forcing the download, but still the majority of the playing annimations is Jana H - California suite.

In the past deleting the models.lst & the refreshing the downloads worked. Now it does not appear to be doing so, hence I reported just that.

@thegreybeard,

From one "grey beard" to another, I will be interested to hear of your results. As its 5:00am my time, I am going to bed after playing with this for 2 hours or so.

Hope to hear/see more activity when I return.

We as a community need to help Totem iron out the bugs in this release before it is released offically.

So leats all keep the comments "professional" and detailed so that the developers can understand what are the issues.

Cheers

@cartref:
Could you start a fresh install on your laptop ( uninstall completly before reinstall). I want to be sure that something from the previous versions doesn't cause this problems...
PS : you can continue to copy animation files from a PC to another (same account).

@Herve,

Thanks, I wanted toleave it as in in case you had specific questions.

I have now down an uninstall, and confirmed that the registry is clear before I install the new beta.

I have installed the new beta, then performed the registry hack and after a time, the connection to the servers was completed.

It appears that the install is correct as I have seen a few different annimations that were not available earlier this morning, however getting to the options screen is VERY slow.

The CPU on VGHD is/was at 80% and the options creen is appearing as an empty fram on my screen until it refreshes properley.

I will post a screen shot shortly

I've just downloaded and installed this and still find the user interface of VG impossible to use for as long as the downloader is running - takes about 20 seconds to respond to each mouse click. Kill the downloader and all is well ...

I seem to have a slight problem which I've noticed on the last few versions as well. When playing the animations they seem to go all screwy. It's not limited to any particular animations either.

For information, I am using Athlon x2 6000+, 4GB RAM, Nvidia 8800GTS (320MB) SLi and Vista x64 SP1 with all the latest drivers installed.

I'll also add that this is a clean install of Vista so most of the software hasn't been installed yet (not even anti-virus).

EDIT : picture showing a girl on desktop with no transparency removed (nudity)

Okay, my machine:
Dual Intel 3.20 gig processors
4 gigs of ram (memory)
ATI 2600 XT with 512 megs of video ram
Windows XP SP2 Internet Explorer 7
300 gigs of free hard drive space
24 inch flat panel monitor set at 1900 by 1200
DSL Pro internet connection
Turned off the downloader
Quit VGHD
I did the registry key
I installed this version as directed by herve78350 over version 1.0.2.3 and it is showing that I have downloader version 1.0.1.4 but it is still showing that I have version 1.0.2.3 for the main executable.
All seems to be working fine like this with 2 exceptions:
All animations seem to work great except for one that I had bought long before the little mishap I had recently which is now showing up as a free trailer Vicki and Sandra H (Brazil Fever) When you click perform now every girl but the right ones come up to perform.
Now after playing animations I can no longer connect to your website without re-booting my computer, I can go anywhere else but not here.

I repeated the install twice to see if anything would change but it did not. Should I try a registry clean up and a clean install ?

Dunno, but I had similar problems when I first joined and it turned out to be because I did not have divix and Windows media player installed. Animations were either all screwed up or would not play at all for me.
Don't know if this will help but thought I would share this.

@thegraybeard,

herve had me do an uninstall and then a clean install. You might get erors here until you use the registery hack as per herve's initial instructions. This is because an uninstall will clear the registry.

My VGHD is now playing Ok, but the performance on the system is bad. I had not heard that VGHD Downloader was a performace problem. When viewed in Task manager it utilises little CPU

@pug957,

I was not aware that VGHD depended upon any other media player to run. In fact I have run it on a PC without DIVIX being installed.

I can't comment on why when thegraybeard installed these things that his annimations played better, this is one that Totem needs to comment on.

Well when I first tried installing VGHD when I joined it told me that I had to have Windows Media Player to work properly so I activated it and all went well, this was with version 1.0.0.1
I then bought 2 shows that would not run whatsoever (both shows were of Nella) so I remembered reading somewhere here that some of the videos relied on divix. So on a long shot I downloaded the free version of divix and installed it. After that the 2 Nella shows performed perfectly. That is how it worked for me.
By the way I did enter the registry string as instructed as posted in my post and I have not gotten any errors so far. It is the fact that after playing animations none of the web pages open from the program. They start to open, comes up in IE saying web site found, waiting for reply and never loads the page. Before playing any animations I can get anywhere I want here through the program.

I had to do the same thing on my second machine to get the Nella shows to work also. Not saying that this will work for all but it worked for me anyway. I have also run the program without divix but the fact remains the Nella shows I had would not work for me at all before I installed it. They just came up a square black screen.
My CPU usage is from 0 to 3 at idle with the downloader running.Most shows range from 3 to 35 CPU usage except for some of the shows with 2 girls spike anywhere from 23 to 73 CPU usage.
Maybe I will try a clean install later, it is now midnight where I live and I am going to bed, Goodnight All

I have only one comment to make.

Thanks for breaking this program.

It has NOT worked since the fantastic update that screwed everything up.

It still WON'T install!!

Oh, thanks for the free tickets but as noted before - totally useless to me unless this program installs!

Three weeks now!

anybody suffering jerky playback with their cards who have divx installed should consider installing ffdshow instead.

i've been having a few problems with the divx codec used outside of the divx player.

@zedyz,

Tells us the issues that you have on you PC in as much detail as possible. The developers cannot see your PC, so they only way they are going to know what is broken is for you to calmly tell them. Just saying it won't install tells very little.

What error messages are you getting, if any at all?
What steps were you doing? We can't relying on people folowing the instructions, there are always variation in what people do?
Where is the installation failing, at what point in the install.
have you tried an uninstalland a reinstall as recommended by Herve to me in the above posts?

Just a few suggestions

@thegraybeard,

I would like to hear Totem's comments on what happened previously. Neither Windows media or Divix should be required.

@Geeseh,
No my annimations are playing smoothly even on the laptop, its just that the rest of the machine is now slow and the options screen while the VGHD Loader is running is morbid.

I can confirm the comment by zhastaph, that the options page performs much better if the loader is terminated.

Why this would be I do not know as it shows very little CPU usage. Maybe there is a conflict somewhere in other resources??

PS
I have just noticed that its not just the options menu, but also the start menu that is extremely slow.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
the 'animations' are actually video and as such do require a codec to be used whether it's internal or external to vghd

at least this is the way it seems to me.

@geeseh,

the only issue that I have with your comment is that I cannot recall ever Totem listing having either software items installed as a requisite for runniing VGHD. Which is what they would have had to have done.

I am not disputing thegraybeard's recollection of the events, but that is why I think it essential that Totem comment on it.

Testing the beta version and so far no problems with either install, downloading, or playing the animations.

Machine is Intel core2dual 3.2 Ghz with 4 GB RAM running on 64bit Vista Home Premium.

As Cartref and thegraybeard also noticed the CPU usage with nothing but VG and IE running is extremely high, between 20% and spiking now and then around 90%. RAM usage seems good though.

Will post more if any other problems show.

Edit 1: Noticed that when looking at the Download page in the Options the whole page apart from the top and side menus refreshes itself continuosly, aka every second, which makes it seem to flicker in an annoying way. Is only that, annoying, unless it's a source of CPU usage too.

===

It's because in the background VGHD is 'talking' to every application in the system to get it's Window Title to work out if it's IE {or similar i assume} so that it can work out by 'magic' that you've just bought a card. The trouble is that it gets stuck on their own app - for what reason i don't know. But it's not a CPU thing. Given that it doesn't seem to be happening to everyone I assume that the downloader is not happy about something on some people's systems.

The strange thing is if you perservere with the awful response the downloader does actually work fine.

I've found the answer for me is to leave the downloader killed. Navigate to a card I want to download {or the check updates button if I've just bought one} then launch the downloader directly {program files\vghd\virtualgirl_downloader.exe} give it about 20 seconds for VGHD to realise it's there. Then click and hold the download now or Check updates button, count to 5 slowly and releasel. Then wait for about another 10 seconds and it starts to download. Then kill the downloader again when it's finished downloading. It's a pain in the arse but at least you can use it still.

I really do wish they would either drop this, or at least build an optional tick box of it so that people that have trouble with it can disable it themselves. Today it's their own application causing problems but potentionally any poorly written windows application will cause this.

edited because what I've just suggested to try didn't work :o/

Could you not run the window checking thing off of a thread rather than a timer message? {i am making assumptions though as to how it works}

Just had some time to play with my computer and see what was happening and I have also narrowed it down to the downloader. When enabled, the animations would get screwed up as soon as I ran some application that took the processor usage over 60%. When I disable the downloader, everything runs fine no matter how much I load the processor up, for example with WMP, powerdvd, Nero showtime, internet explorer, photoshop and orthos (CPU stress tester).

Can we get rid of the auto-download feature and go back to the older version? We never had half the problems whilst we were using that.

@zhastaph & pug957,

Thanks for your comments guys, these are the sort of feedback that can help Totem sort out whatever is the problem.

For the moment like zhatastaph, I have killed the downloader on my laptop and it is much improved. It remains riunning on my desktop where it seems to have little impact.

I can confirm what other people are saying.

When I start VGHD now, there is severe lag in the GUI. Right clicking the "V" icon to bring up the menu, and then trying to select the "options" screen and do anything with the options or tabs can take several seconds for the GUI to respond to any input.

This is somehwat intermittent when it's happening. Sometimes the GUI is responsive, but it never takes long before it ceases to be responsive in the manner describe above.

As others have said, the easiest and most consistent way to solve this problem is to go into the task manager and end the "virtuagirl_Downloader" process. This solves all problems with the GUI, but obviously makes it impossible to purchase a new card, check for updates, or download a girl in your collection until it is re-activated.

I know this has all already been stated, but I wanted to add my own experience to the pile. Hope this helps.

After installing this version over the 1.0.2.3 my downloader came up with this. The Jana H at the top is not on my calender plus the fact is that I own the full show. As you can see it has downloaded Nella Ibiza two times and checked for updates numerous times. Downloader version 1.0.1.4 I had not had any lag in response time when clicking in the program except after playing a few animations,then it starts acting up as to slow loading,slow response, and will not hook to any of the web sites until I re-boot the computer. CPU usage during all this hovers around 0 to 6% settleing around 0.

This AM I did a clean install with this version, added the registry string as instructed and started right away having choppy videos on an occasional girl. I had it set to continious play and this could not be re-created with any one girl it would just happen occasionaly on any girl it chose to. Set to every 5 seconds it still did the same thing. It would do this with any girl randomly and like I said, never the same girl. I never had choppy videos at all before. Most girls the CPU usage spiked no higer than 39 when they first came on but then would settle back to 0 to 15 and hover in that area. When a Choppy one came on the CPU would Spike up to 90% at times.
The Downloader ?
Well it did pretty much the same as 4/11, downloaded Jana H California Suit first, I did buy Jana H Good Catch from my calender and it downloaded fine and played fine afterwards it updated twice one right after the other.
I never noticed any difference with downloader on or off.
(continued)

I can, however, hook to the VGHD web site through the program now without re-booting when I could not before the clean install. I can even go to the VGHD web site while videos are playing, like I did when I first joined, but like I said, the occasional choppy one would come along. I could go anywhere else on the web with my browser but could not come here through the program is what I am saying.

I've also noted that the iexplore.exe process started by the software when you click on any of the web options within the VGHD software doesn't close as it should. This has been a problem for several versions now.

Sorry - I appear to be having a personal problem getting anything from totem to install ever since I uninstalled. I bet buying a new computer would "fix" the problem, but I can't really do that. I don't think the uninstall was completely successful (just guessing), but I don't know where to look for the theoretical leftovers that are fouling subsequent installation attempts.

@tweek86,

Do you know how to use regedit? If so you can check the system registry to ensure that the Totem fingerprints are remove.

Using the initial path from Herve:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/totem/vghd/DLM/

You would want to ensure that there is nothing left under Totem. See the attachment

I have problems with the downloader as well. In my case all I know is that it's "stuck" on downloading card a0052. It keeps trying and successfully downloads it every time, I can even play the animations, but once done it kinda hickups, restarts the download on the same card again, is stuck on 15% for a while, then downloads it successfully again before repeating the process. This means the downloader never gets to the cards left to download after card a0052 (about 10 cards in queue).
Deleting and setting card a0052 to not download doesn't help either, my guess (unqualified as it is) is taht the downloader fails to verify the card after downloading and subsequently retries from start. This could be a problem with the card itself, or with the downloader, which I can't find out.

Another things is that the high hand, hair, and clothes motions on the pole in full setting still superimpose themselves all the way up the pole.

Cheers

OOPS!!! Forgot to mention that...My download screen is stuck on
a0194-Nella-Skimmed Milk{full show) just keeps blinking(where it
should say connected)VirtuaGirl_Downloader.exe not found.
I also want to say(again) that this is a pretty new computer.
Not only that,but I reinstalled my OS(from disk)like 5 days ago and
it erased everything from before.I did that because of problems with this "update".I installed the program again and for 2 days it
worked downloading my collection again.Then it stopped and hasn't moved since.As an Experiment I bought a new card (carmen gemini-
vegas) to see if that might get it moving...NOPE!!! I did,however,
have 2 cards deducted from my account.So that part still works fine
LOL Very tempted to cancel membership.

herve78350,

I just checked the web site and found this on the page:

License: Free Software
Unlimited daily free updates included
No adware, no spyware, no virus,
certified 100% clean.
Windows 2000/XP/Vista 32 bit color
Release date: Apr. 8, 2008
File size: 2.13MB
Version: 1.0.2.3

I downloaded this yesterday beforing realizing that it is the same version as what I already had. I confirmed in the 'about' of help in the application and found that it is indeed that same version.

What happened to this version?: 1.0.2.4. I am not able to access it or even see it on your web site. The web site is only downloading (for me) the previous version.

I am only a computer operator. I know absolutely NOTHING about computer programming/computer languages.

Can someone please tell me what herve says concerning downloading the new version?

Otherwise, I will have to wait until it shows on the page at the web site.
